Thepla is considered to be one of the most popular dishes of Gujarat. This tasty and nutritious flatbread is made out of whole wheat flour, spices and freshly cut fenugreek leaves. Herbs give this flatbread an exceptional taste and make it highly nutritious.
Thepla is often consumed for breakfast purposes or taken during long journeys due to the long freshness period. It is served with different sauces, such as yogurt, pickle or green chutney. Many families prepare it on a regular basis since it is nutritious and delicious.
Thepla contains important vitamins and minerals that help to maintain the health of a person. There are many variations of Thepla, including plain thepla, bottle gourd thepla and spinach thepla.
Ingredients
2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 cup of fresh fenugreek leaves (methi), chopped
1 tablespoon of yogurt
1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
1 teaspoon of red chili powder
1 teaspoon of cumin powder
1 teaspoon of coriander powder
Salt according to personal preferences
1 tablespoon of oil

The way of cooking Thepla
Preparation of the Dough
Place ingredients mentioned above (except water) into the mixing bowl.
Kneading of the Dough
Gradually pour water onto the dough and knead it.
Resting Time
Leave the dough for about 10-15 minutes.
Division of the Dough
Split the dough into smaller balls as you would do it with Roti dough.
Rolling the Dough
Roll each ball into the thepla shape by using a rolling pin.
Cooking the Thepla
Warm up the pan and start cooking the thepla. Do not forget to apply a little amount of oil before placing each piece of thepla on it.
Cooking the Pieces
Fry the pieces until golden-brownish spots will appear on it.
Serving the Thepla
Enjoy your freshly cooked thepla with yogurt, pickle or green chutney.
