Misal Pav is an interesting cuisine from Maharashtra state that is very delicious. Misal Pav consists of a variety of sprouted lentil, which is popularly known as ‘matki’, topped with crispy farsan, onion, and coriander leaves.
Misal Pav is one such cuisine that can be enjoyed for breakfast and lunch in the state of Maharashtra. Different types of Misal Pav dishes are popularly eaten in cities of Pune, Kolhapur, and Mumbai. Kolhapur offers the most spiced up version of this cuisine. Thus, Misal Pav is popular because of the spiced flavor and texture varieties it provides.
In addition to being delicious, Misal Pav is very nutritious as well since it contains sprouted matki, which is rich in fiber and protein.
Ingredients
For the Misal Curry
- 1 cup sprouted matki
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- 2 tomatoes (chopped)
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Salt (to taste)
- 2 tbsp oil
Serving
- 4 pieces of pav bread
- 1 cup of farsan mixture
- 1 onion (finely chopped)
- Fresh coriander leaves
- Lemon wedges
Preparation of Misal Pav
Steps to prepare Misal Curry
- Firstly, steam cook sprouted matki in salted water.
- Heat oil in a pan and roast cumin seeds and then finely chopped onions.
- Fry the onions until it turns brown.
- Add the tomatoes in the pan and stir well. After that, put turmeric powder, chili powder, and garam masala in the pan and mix thoroughly.
- Cook further until it becomes thick.
- Lastly, mix prepared matki in the curry.
Steps for Serving
- Transfer the prepared misal curry into a bowl.
- Put the farsan, onions, and fresh coriander leaves on top of it.
- Add lemon wedges and serve it with pav bread.
